About us
Terra Design Lab is a design studio founded by Manuela Gioia in 2015, dedicated to creating thoughtful, sustainable environments that are carefully considered, beautifully resolved, and responsive to both their surroundings and the people who inhabit them.
Background
Manuela graduated in Architecture from the University of Florence in 2005 and has since collaborated with several high-profile architectural practices across Italy, Spain, and Australia. Her international experience has shaped a design approach that combines architectural rigour, creativity, and a deep understanding of climate, materials, place, and the everyday experiences that shape how we interact with the built environment.
Values & Approach
Manuela believes that good design extends beyond aesthetics—it is about shaping the built environment to enrich the way people live, work, and connect. She believes designers and architects have a responsibility to create places that are beautiful, comfortable, functional, and enduring, while responding thoughtfully to the natural world around us.
Her design philosophy embraces a holistic approach, exploring the relationship between people, place, and the environment. Inspired by principles of Feng Shui and the Golden Ratio, Manuela considers balance, proportion, natural flow, and harmony as essential elements in creating environments that feel intuitive, connected, and nurturing. These principles are thoughtfully integrated with sustainable design strategies to support wellbeing and foster a deeper connection between people and their surroundings.
Through a balance of sustainable principles, careful detailing, and a strong connection between lifestyle, place, and purpose, Manuela creates considered environments that are authentic, meaningful, and designed to stand the test of time.
